"It feels better. I can’t really compare the experience in words because they are more than that to me. I am able to move every muscle unlike before the surgery. That’s probably the best improvement for me."

A spinal cord injury can turn the life of any person on its head, and they can happen when least expected, altering the course of a life forever. Canadian National Randeep Rai was involved in an accident in 2013 that would leave his life forever scarred. However, after receiving a revolutionary treatment, his road to recovery is well under way.

Randeep's Story

In 2013, Canadian Randeep Rai was involved in a life-changing accident. As a result, he was left to adjust to life with a C5-C6 spinal cord injury that deprived him of all voluntary control of his limbs.

However, Randeep was not ready to give up. He had the support of his brother, who also did not want to accept the reality of Randeep’s injury. They both undertook extensive research on treatment options that could help potentially help Randeep make a recovery. It was this research that resulted in the two siblings becoming aware of the breakthrough spinal cord injury treatment known as Epidural Stimulation. Further investigation lead them to discovering a state-of-the-art facility in Bangkok which offered the treatment with the best chances of success and optimal recovery.

What is Epidural Stimulation?

Epidural Stimulation is a breakthrough spinal cord injury treatment that involves surgically implanting a device on the patient’s spine, which in turn uses electrical signals to help stimulate movement in the patient. This treatment is often paired with extensive rehabilitation and regenerative treatment to give the patient the best chance at regaining as many of their previous abilities as possible.

Randeep's Treatment Experience

After the initial treatment, Randeep quickly began to see improvements in his condition. He soon began to make progress and regain some leg movements. Inspired by thinking that he would one day be able to return to the football field, start going places, and participate in activities with his brother once more, he was able to put up a fair fight in his training regime to help him get back on his feet once more.

Continuous Hard Work: Randeep's Recovery

Randeep has made significant progress thanks to Epidural Stimulation and his great determination. He has experienced a considerable number of voluntary movements of his legs. He is also able to hold his legs up on his own more now. Every patient’s injury varies from case to case, which means that some parts of one person’s recovery may be faster than others.

Randeep understands that hard work is an essential part of reaching any goal, especially one as ambitious as recovering from a spinal cord injury. As a result, he is working hard every day to achieve his goals, and he is consistently seeing improvements along the way.
